Various Artists – Gahela, Our Fight is a Party (Peru)
Artistic and activist collaboration in support of Gahela Tseneg Cari Contreras, the first indigenous trans woman to run for congress in Peru in 2021. During her political campaign Gahela frequently faced transphobic abuse. However, her leadership and visibility strengthened the trans community in Peru. Gahela writes: “This song is a collective collaboration, a dissident shout, an LGBTI scream and an attempt to unite our struggles and resistances.”
Marden Crunjer
Monochromatic: “When I told my father that I loved in different colours, he replied that it was impossible. He told me, “Love has only one way of being and existing.’ This helped me understand that my father didn’t really comprehend the diversity love possesses. So I composed a song for him to colour his monochromatic thoughts.”- Marden Crunjen.
Eme
Singer and trans artist. “Corazón resiste” (Heart, withstand): song performed and composed by Eme, inspired by two collaborative poems written by more than 60 LGBTIQ+ people from Lima and Huancayo.
Marden Crunjer - Kingdom of the queer
I have always felt that I don’t follow the ‘rules’ of society, that I don’t fit in, that I am the odd one, the queer one in this society. “El Reino de los Raros” (The Kingdom of the Queer) allowed me to explore and embrace all those thoughts I had about myself. And it became an anthem that celebrates dissident people, who break the ‘accepted rules’. This song is a personal exploration of my self-acceptance process, from my first romantic encounter with boys to my current life out of the closet. This is a very personal song that I hope will unite several brave dissident hearts.
Antay - Promise me (Peru)
I am Antay, @soyantay, a musician, song-writer and trans activist. I made “Júrame” (Promise Me) to embrace my own heart, to embrace my trans self and to free my voice, accept myself as a dissident artist, trans man and share my story to say, ‘I exist’. Promise Me is not just a love song to others, but a love song to the self; this song has allowed me to get to know more trans artists, to bond, to build together. I am thankful for all the processes of love and resilience expressed in this song. Promise me that you will listen to it.
