LGBTI Resistances

Santiago, Chile

Luta Cruz

Having travelled through an endless number of music styles, such as jazz, opera and Evangelical music, today she composes her own music and she has two videos in the pipeline for next year. Luta is an activist advocating for the rights of racialised, hairy, marginalised, migrant women. Her story is that of someone who has been on a journey towards recognising her own identity in a context where that was denied her on all fronts.

SIEMPRE BARLE

Siempre Barle is a lesbian artist, enthusiast, and lover of all urban rhythms and self-managed music that distances itself from the canons of the commercial music industry.

Since 2019, she has explored the rhythms of reggaeton, trap, and rap, always seeking to express a critique of the system while also creating songs that allow us to celebrate our struggle from our own realities. She released her first songs under the label La Peluquería Records, incorporating Chilean Sign Language into her videos and performances.

Una Típica Francisca

Singer, barber and photographer Francisca Cuevas is one of the artists behind La Peluquería Records, a recording and music production studio that ‘launched in early 2018 with the aim of generating a welcoming safe space for the creation of danceable music for women and dissidents.’

She started out with boleros and covers and then slowly shifted to reggaeton. Her latest single, GataBata, is available as a music video featuring La Casa del Perreo (The House of Perreo) and her football team Las Vaginas Silvestres (The Wild Vaginas). An acoustic version is also available.

Manifiesto - Alex Anwandter (Chile)

I think that in Chile and other parts of Latin America, especially until the 60s, there was a tradition of artists connecting with the social. A tradition of Latin American song that was lost, but many of our great musical heroes, at least in Chile, Argentina or Brazil, are part of that tradition. It is a very nice exercise for me to reconnect with that which is also ours (Alex Anwandter in Interview for Signos FM).
