LGBTI Resistances

"I have never felt in a difficult position for being openly lesbian; perhaps the uncomfortable part is when guys don’t know and insist anyway, haha. Observing the musical environment in Mexico, I am aware of a lot of micro-machismo, as power dynamics, musicians’ egos, and patriarchal violence continue to persist. In both the classical and experimental music worlds, men are the majority, women are fewer, and there are even fewer lesbians. The mistake often lies in them thinking you’re just like them.
The most beautiful thing, without a doubt, is being visible and live peacefully, being myself in every aspect of my life. I believe that you should always be true to yourself; it’s less complicated and much more fun to coexist with who you really are. Another wonderful thing in Mexico is seeing and hearing more women making music. It’s important to show ourselves love and support—let’s break down prejudices and barriers simply because we have the right to do so."
