Michelle Maciel
“I’m afraid of being labeled, both as a person and as a musician. I don’t want to be categorized under regional Mexican music and have that label stay with me forever, because I love other things too,” says Michelle, who enjoys reggaeton and maintains a close connection with pop, the genre that embraced him during his early beginnings in music.
“But I also don’t think of myself as ‘the LGBT artist’ who’s making it big in regional music, because I try not to limit myself. I see myself rather as the number one artist in Mexico and in the world, regardless of my preferences. That has nothing to do with my music or my success. I’ve never seen it as something negative, even though it might be for many in such a macho industry.”
Belonging to the LGBT+ community is a source of pride for him; however, he does not seek to take advantage of that position, even if that “added value” could have the potential to catapult his popularity to new heights
