Javiera Electra
Electra Hernández is a singer-songwriter and performing artist based in Concepción, Chile. Her nomadic journey led to the creation of the musical project Javiera Electra in the city of Valparaíso, where she actively participated in the artistic lineup of "El Ollón de las Putas," a community kitchen founded during the pandemic by trans activists and allies involved in art and sex work.
Since the time she was performing in public transportation and community kitchens in neighborhoods, Electra has conquered various stages, including notable ones like the REC Festival 2024 in Concepción and the Rockódromo Festival 2023 in Valparaíso. (source 1)
"For me, it’s a political stance not to put being transgender at the forefront, but to normalize the existence of trans people and not make my entire identity revolve around that... I feel a responsibility I don't want to have. I’m not an example of how to be trans, and I’m certainly not someone to tell others how to be transgender."
However, her commitment to supporting marginalized groups remains strong. She acknowledges the need to raise her voice when necessary. In fact, she is well aware of the violence faced by the trans community. For example, she spreads awareness about the case of Estefano, advocating for his release, as he is currently serving a prison sentence for killing his attacker in self-defense. (source 2)
